Brand new: On Cloudmonster 3

05 March 2026 - Written by David del Río
The On Cloudmonster 3 arrives as the most well-rounded and balanced evolution of one of the Swiss brand's most recognisable shoes. Following the impact of the original Cloudmonster and the smoother transition of the second version, this third generation recaptures the more “lively” feel of the first, but with more refined cushioning, a more stable upper and a smoother transition.

It is the base version of the Cloudmonster 3 family, the most balanced for daily training, positioned between the Cloudmonster 3 Hyper (more focused on fast long runs) and the LightSpray Hyper (lighter and more minimalist).

Upper: completely redesigned for improved fit, stability and comfort

The upper of the Cloudmonster 3 has been completely redesigned from the previous version. It now offers:
  • More structured engineered mesh, with better lateral support and greater stability.
  • Greater breathability, thanks to a more open and better ventilated mesh.
  • A thinner and more effective tongue that fits well without causing pressure.
  • A reinforced collar that provides extra control at the heel.
  • True-to-size fit with medium volume in the forefoot.
In short: a more secure and stable upper, ideal for runners looking for comfort and control, especially on long runs or high-volume sessions.

Midsole: triple CloudTec, dual-density Helion foam and nylon Speedboard

The most important new feature in this edition is the suspension system:

Triple layer CloudTec

On's signature pods are now organised into three levels, offering:
  • Smoother landing
  • Greater shock absorption
  • More stable transition

Dual-density Helion foam

With a softer feel than the Cloudmonster 2, but maintaining that firm structure typical of On.

Nylon Speedboard

It provides extra propulsion, greater stability, and a stride that feels fast without being aggressive.

More pronounced rocker geometry

The Cloudmonster 3 flows much better forward. The rocker clearly drives the transition and helps maintain a steady pace without effort.

Sole: improved durability and a more stable base

The sole features:

  • Reinforced rubber zones for greater durability
  • Better rubber distribution
  • More stable transitions
  • Excellent traction on asphalt and compacted trails

It is not a trail sole, but it performs flawlessly where it needs to: asphalt, tracks and firm surfaces.

Weight (correctly updated according to official sizes)

  • Men: 295 g in size US 8.5
  • Women: 240 g in size US 7

Although the weight is not particularly light, the shoe feels more agile than the scales suggest thanks to the rocker and the dynamism of the whole.

Here is the video from the brand with the technical specifications.
