Upper

What is the upper of a running shoe?

The upper is the most visible part of the shoe and one of the most important. Not only does the upper determine the design, colours and overall style of the shoe, it also directly influences the runner's performance and comfort.

In running shoes, the upper is designed to provide support, breathability and flexibility. It is typically made from synthetic materials, technical fabrics or engineered mesh to provide optimal ventilation and a precise fit.

Seamless reinforcements, made possible by technologies such as heat sealing, are also common. These reduce weight and prevent chafing, while internal structures improve stability without compromising lightness.

In addition, the configuration of the lacing system, heel and tongue design influences the type of fit, adapting to different foot types and running styles.
