The world of running has just witnessed a historic moment that will live long in the memory. At the adidas campus in Herzogenaurach, Germany, Sibusiso Kubheka made history by becoming the first person to complete 100 km in under six hours, finishing in 5:59:20 with an average pace of 3:36/km.

Yes, you read that right: 3:36 per kilometre... for six hours straight.

An event that redefines what is possible

The challenge, dubbed CHASING 100, was much more than a race. It was an experience created to break human limits:

  • A circuit designed inside the Adidas headquarters.
  • Night conditions, under the stars, to optimise performance.
  • An elite technical team that measured every detail of the challenge.

The result was historic: a new standard in ultrarunning.

The protagonist: Adizero Adios Pro Evo X

Kubheka wore the Adizero Adios Pro Evo X prototype on his feet. This shoe was developed exclusively for this project.

While little is known about this model, it has been confirmed that:
  • It is extremely lightweight, weighing less than any other shoe in the Adizero range.
  • It incorporates a new generation of Lightstrike Pro Evo foam that is lighter and more reactive.
  • It retains a high stack platform and stiffness elements to maximise efficiency over long distances.
The Evo X is currently a prototype not available to the public. Adidas is planning a commercial version with adaptations, but no official release date has been confirmed yet.

A milestone for running and adidas

CHASING 100 marks a turning point in ultra-distance running and establishes Adidas as a key player in performance innovation.

Just as Breaking2 transformed the perception of the marathon, this milestone ushers in a new era for endurance events.

Beyond the stopwatch

More than a record, this achievement is a statement of intent:
  • The human body is capable of much more than we think.
  • Technology and science applied to sport are taking performance to a level never seen before.
  • Most importantly, this is just the first page of what is to come.
